lucerne our lucerne
The characteristics of our grounds allow us to cultivate one of the more appreciated forages: the lucerne. Currently we have got two varieties of it, "hunter river" and "doblone".
It is surely the most important crop of the farm from an economic point of view, even if in the last years, with a strong crisis of the regional zootechnical compartment, a decrease of the demand has occur and, accordingly, a diminution of the product price.
The seeding happens in October or in March, if time allows it, and the mowings are five on average, approximately once in a month, between May and September.
The dried grass is packed in cylindrical bales or rectangular little bales.

Another crop very in use in our zone, probably the most traditional of the whole Sardinia (since the times of the ancient Romans rightly defined "Italy's granary") is the hard wheat.
Also our soils are suitables to its cultivation, that is habitually alternated to improver crops like leguminosae (forage broad beans or peas).
The hard wheat takes up the greater part of our farm surface, altough it is crossing a period of crisis too (you have to think that the price of sale is lower compared with the one of twenty years ago!).
The seeding happens between November and December, after abundant ground workmanships, and the reaping is performed between June and July.
crops part of the kitchen garden rows
Seasonally, as it is good habit for who possesses also only a small bit of ground, we take care of a small kitchen garden, prevalently during the summer, with drop irrigation.
For now it has small dimensions, but we don't exclude to enlarge it to extensive level if and when there will be conditions to do it.
We cultivate with good results various vegetables (tomatoes, aubergins, courgettes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuces, artichokes, fennels, carrots, radishes, celeries, broad beans, potatoes) and herbs (basil, rosemary, sage, marjoram, mint, parsley, rocket).
We take good care of the little garden around the farmhouse, whit rosemary and myrtle hedges.
trees foreshortening of the orchard
We also dedicate a good care to the small orchard, that, during the year, requires various interventions like pruning of the trees and shredding of the grass.
It occupies a surface of around 2000 sq.m. and it is encircled by windbreaks of olive and lentisk trees and flourishing indian figs.
There are various kinds of plants: drupacees as peach, apricot and some varieties of plum trees; pomacees as pear, apple and quince trees; citrus as orange, tangerine and clementine trees; and also persimmon, loquat, pomegranate, our typical black and white fig trees, besides a row of table grape.
Considering its redoubts dimensions it is suitable only for a family consumption.
